Suva is located in the southeastern part of Viti Levu, within the Central Division’s Suva Province. In 1874, Fiji became a British colony, and in 1877, the capital was moved from Levuka to Suva, officially establishing it as the capital of Fiji. The city is Fiji’s most vibrant metropolis and serves as the country’s political, economic, and commercial hub.

Known as the “Cultural Crossroads of the South Pacific,” Suva is an important cultural center in the region and the most cosmopolitan city in the South Pacific. The city features classic colonial architecture with charming, old-world flair. Some streets are lined with traditional markets selling antique wood carvings and crafts that are truly captivating. Among Suva’s most iconic landmarks are the Suva City Library and the Carnegie Library, built in 1909. Together with other colonial-era buildings, they form some of the city’s most picturesque scenery. The Fiji Museum is the most significant and spectacular historical museum in the South Pacific and is the perfect place to explore Fiji’s mysterious past.

Suva boasts 78 parks, the most famous of which is Albert Park. Colorful and lively, it hosts the annual Hibiscus Festival, a traditional cultural event that fills the park with joy and celebration.
