Whanganui National Park

Whanganui National Park is located in the Manawatu-Wanganui region of New Zealand's North Island. Established in 1986, it covers an area of 742 square kilometers and is known for the Whanganui River, birdwatching, and Māori cultural villages.

The park boasts the meandering Whanganui River, striking caves, steep hillsides, sheer ridges, well-known walking tracks, Māori villages, and lush lowland forests. A notable feature is the "Bridge to Nowhere," a suspension bridge that spans the Mangapurua Gorge and leads to a small abandoned village—adventurous visitors can cross it. Early Māori settlements within the park have been remarkably preserved, serving as significant historical sites that offer deep insights into Māori culture. The Whanganui River winds through the park, making it a paradise for numerous water-based activities.
