New Zealand National Army Museum

The New Zealand National Army Museum was formerly known as the “Queen Elizabeth II Army Memorial Museum.” It is the official museum of the New Zealand Army, located in Waiouru, Manawatu-Wanganui Region. Opened in 1978, it primarily collects, preserves, and displays the heritage of the New Zealand Army.

Covering an area of 1,300 square meters, the museum was designed with a castle-like appearance, complete with bridges and a moat. The museum also serves to commemorate those soldiers who sacrificed their lives on the battlefield and those who continue to make outstanding contributions to national security. Its collection includes a variety of historical weapons and equipment such as tanks, reconnaissance vehicles, light armored vehicles, trucks, armored fighting vehicles, military vehicles, field guns, pistols, and many others from around the world. In addition, there is a large array of medals, awards, photographs, and army uniforms. The museum also features a gift shop selling books, postcards, clothing, military medals, sculptures, jewelry, hats, mugs, and more.

The New Zealand National Army Museum is open daily from 9:00 to 16:00, year-round except for Christmas Day. Each visitor can typically spend 1 to 1.5 hours exploring the exhibits.
