Sarjeant Gallery
The Sarjeant Gallery is located in Queen's Park, Whanganui, and was established in 1912. It is named after Henry Sarjeant, a well-known New Zealand farmer and benefactor. The gallery primarily collects and exhibits paintings from the 19th to the 20th century.
Currently, the Sarjeant Gallery houses a collection of over 5,500 artworks, ranging from 16th-century European art to 21st-century New Zealand art, with a focus on 19th and 20th-century British and European works. The gallery's collection includes thousands of works on paper, sculptures (both New Zealand and international), photography, pottery, ceramics, glassware, bronze artworks, video art, and paintings. These pieces range from masterpieces by renowned artists to outstanding examples of contemporary art. Each artwork is exquisitely crafted and rich in meaning, provoking deep thought. The gallery is open to the public from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday to Sunday, and from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM on ANZAC Day. It is closed on Christmas Day and Good Friday.
