Palmerston North, often abbreviated as "Palmy," is located in the southern part of New Zealand’s North Island and is a medium-sized city in the Manawatu-Whanganui region. It is the sixth largest city in New Zealand and home to the main campus of Massey University, earning itself the title of "Student City."

Palmerston North features a large number of well-loved tourist destinations and is known as the "Gateway to the Manawatu-Whanganui Region" as well as the gateway to Hawke's Bay.
