Located near Lake Te Anau in the Southland Region of New Zealand’s South Island, the Te Anau Glowworm Caves are the country’s second-largest glowworm viewing cave. Exploring these caves is an exhilarating journey that offers a chance for an up-close encounter with these creatures of the night. Thousands of tiny glowworms dwell in the mysterious and 0 cave, allowing visitors to experience a starry wonderland beneath the earth. Discovered in 1948 by local explorer Lawson Burrows, the Te Anau Glowworm Caves have become one of New Zealand’s most popular tourist attractions, with every visitor eager to witness the glowworms in person.

Visitors can take a boat ride along a long underground river to enter the cave. Hanging from the cave ceiling are countless sparkling, thread-like strands that are both beautiful and magical. These lovely little creatures shimmer like stars and resemble the dazzling Milky Way above, leaving every visitor in awe.
