Bluff is located on the southern coast of New Zealand’s Southland Region. It is both a charming small town and a harbor, and is the southernmost town on the New Zealand mainland. With a sparse population and an elegant environment, it is highly suitable for living and is known as the gateway to Stewart Island.

This historic town is not inhabited by the local Māori people but is instead the oldest town established by European settlers in New Zealand. It boasts a rich and colorful history, which can be explored at the Bluff Maritime Museum. Though small in size, the town holds significant geographical importance — it serves as the main port for the nearby city of Invercargill, located just 20 kilometers away, as well as the ferry terminal for trips to Stewart Island.

Bluff is a town renowned worldwide for its oysters. The Bluff oysters produced here are said to be the most delicious in the world — plump, juicy, smooth, and tender, perfect for eating raw. From April to August each year, the best season for harvesting oysters and various seafood, the town celebrates the lively Bluff Oyster Festival to honor and share these delectable treats. The people of Bluff are warm and hospitable, welcoming visitors from all over the world and inviting them to enjoy a glass of fine wine alongside the world’s finest oysters.
