Taupo Arts and History Museum
The Taupo Arts and History Museum is located in the town of Taupo, Waikato District. Though not very large, the museum clearly and comprehensively showcases the development history of the region, offering visitors an insightful overview.
The museum has three exhibition halls. A small permanent exhibit in the main hall displays salmon fishing techniques and information on boat rentals on Lake Taupo for dedicated anglers. There is also an Early Settlers Exhibition, featuring pictures and photographs of early settlers, while the Māori Exhibition showcases many valuable Māori carvings and replica cultural artifacts. In the museum’s courtyard, there is a tranquil Aroha Garden, featuring quirky and expressive carvings as well as over 1,000 native plants. In the 2004 Chelsea Flower Show, the garden was honored as the “100% Pure New Zealand Aroha Garden,” providing a relaxing space for visitors.
The Taupo Arts and History Museum is open daily from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, year-round except on Christmas Day and Good Friday.
