Lady Knox Geyser is located in the Taupo Volcanic Zone of the Waikato region. Discovered in the early 20th century, it was named after Lady Constance Gaskell, the daughter of a 15th-century ruler of New Zealand. It is one of the few geological features in New Zealand without a Māori name. Its most incredible aspect is that eruption can be artificially induced under certain conditions.

In the 20th century, prisoners held in a nearby jail accidentally triggered the geyser to erupt by adding soap to the natural hot water source. Since then, soap has become the key agent used to stimulate the eruption. Lady Knox Geyser puts on a daily performance, which begins at 10:15 AM every day. The water column rises up to 20 meters within an hour, with relatively mild force. Around 10 AM each morning, a crowd of loyal spectators gathers near the geyser, eagerly awaiting the show. The moment staff add soap to the fountain, the magic happens—the water slowly wells up, then gradually climbs skyward, drawing cheers and applause from the onlookers.
