The Poor Knights Islands are located on the east coast of the Northland Region, 50 kilometers from Whangārei, and are surrounded by the Poor Knights Islands Marine Reserve. They serve as both a nature reserve and a world-renowned destination for deep-sea diving. It is said that their name originates from French toast (Poor Knight's Pudding).

The Poor Knights Islands consist of two main islands and several smaller ones, covering an area of approximately 23 square kilometers. They are acclaimed as one of the world’s top diving spots in New Zealand’s northern region. When you dive beneath the surface of the Poor Knights Islands, you’ll be amazed by the vibrant underwater world, densely covered with seaweed and teeming with marine life swimming all around you. The surrounding waters are home to clusters of sponges and coral reefs, which provide habitat for numerous “marine residents” such as fish, shellfish, sea urchins, and anemones. There are also many caves on the seabed with unfathomable depths, where playful fish freely come and go.
