Introduction

Wellington Zoo is home to a variety of unique and rare animals, attracting many animal lovers to visit. Among them, the zoo houses New Zealand’s national bird, the kiwi. This bird has no wings, no tail, and a long beak, making it uniquely interesting in appearance. Many people are curious—New Zealand also has a fruit called “kiwi,” which has nothing to do with the kiwi bird. It is actually a kiwifruit introduced from southern China in the early 20th century. Through careful cultivation and improvement by the people of New Zealand, this fruit has become one of the country’s most important exports.
