Wellington Botanic Garden (Wellington Botanic Garden) is located on the hills between Thorndon and Kelburn in New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington, covering an area of 25 hectares. It feels like an international garden, where famous trees and flowers from around the world can almost all be seen. Among them are China’s camellias, France’s roses, Brazil’s coral trees, Argentina’s “Hand of the Devil,” the Canary Islands’ flame trees, Australia’s beeches, Norfolk Island pines, African cedars, North American tulip trees, Dutch tulips, as well as Japanese cherry blossoms in a variety of colors. Of course, the most numerous plants in the garden are native New Zealand species such as pines, cypresses, elms, willows, and ferns.

Wellington Botanic Garden has its own unique charm — the moment you step into the park, you’ll feel embraced by a sea of green. The slopes ahead, the grass at your feet, the tall pines and cypresses, the low shrubs — there’s not a single spot without greenery. If you wander down winding paths or climb up twisting mountain trails, the green becomes even more intense. Towering trees shade the sky above, leafy plants surround you, thick moss carpets the ground beneath your feet, and streams murmur in the valley below. Thanks to the garden’s diverse collection of plants from different countries, soils, and climates, it remains lush and green year-round, with flowers blooming abundantly in both the hills and valleys, competing brilliantly in a dazzling display of beauty.

The most spectacular blooms in Wellington Botanic Garden are the roses, with over 500 varieties flowering continuously for eight months of the year. When in full bloom, they present a riot of colors and fill the air with a sweet fragrance. The most beautiful of all, however, are the tulips. With 13 varieties, they burst into bloom in early spring. Wellington locals flock to the garden in groups to admire them, making it the busiest and most vibrant time of the year.
