Wellington Cable Car Museum

The Wellington Cable Car Museum was built on the site of the original cable car winding house and tells the story of New Zealand's cable cars from 1902 to the present. Riding the red 1902 cable car has also become an activity for visitors to the museum.

At the entrance of the museum, there are the originally used machines that still operate today. Inside, cable cars and various models are displayed, giving visitors a clear understanding of the structure, working principles, and history of the cable cars. The most interesting part is that visitors can ride the red 1902 cable car to tour Wellington. Volunteers spent six years restoring this cable car. Typically, visitors take this red cable car from the foot of Victoria Peak up the hill, accompanied by the sweet squeaking and creaking sounds, as the cable car climbs the cliffs, passes through the Wellington Botanic Garden, and finally arrives at the Wellington Cable Car Museum.

The Wellington Cable Car Museum is open from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM every day except Christmas, operating year-round.
