Rimutaka Forest Park

Rimutaka Forest Park is a protected area in eastern Wellington, established in 1988, covering an area of 220 square kilometers. It is surrounded by towering mountains and traversed by tranquil rivers.

The park contains steep hills, lush valleys, babbling streams, blooming flowers, serene lakes, and a variety of flora and fauna. There are also a range of artificially built trails leading to different scenic areas. The park has five designated hunting zones for visitors to enjoy hunting activities. Within the park, visitors can observe New Zealand's national bird—the kiwi—and even get up close to them, touching and even hugging these unique birds.

Today, Rimutaka Forest Park serves as an ecological research base and has made significant contributions to scientific studies, with its grand canyon being the area of highest long-term research value.
