Westpac Stadium

Westpac Stadium is located in Wellington and opened in 2000. Covering an area of approximately 48,000 square kilometers, it is the most important stadium in Wellington and is affectionately referred to as the "Cake Tin" by fans of the Wellington Phoenix football team.

Constructed in 1999, Westpac Stadium can hold over 36,000 spectators and is primarily used for rugby and football matches. The 2010 FIFA World Cup was held here, and during the 2011 Rugby World Cup, eight matches took place at this venue. In the summer, it also hosts domestic and international cricket matches. The stadium has also specially built areas for university students’ physical education classes.

Westpac Stadium is a multi-purpose venue. In addition to sporting events, it also serves as a major concert location. In 2010, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo was held here — the first time it had been performed outside of Edinburgh — and received widespread acclaim from New Zealanders.
