The Southern Motor Museum is located just north of Paraparaumu on the Kapiti Coast of New Zealand’s North Island, about a one-hour drive from downtown Wellington. It enjoys sunny beaches and stunning natural scenery. The Southern Motor Museum was once the largest private car collection in the country. Since 1956, it was amassed by Len & Southward, and in 1972, it was handed over to a charitable trust for management and operation.

The Southern Motor Museum opened to the public in December 1979. To this day, it has become the largest and most comprehensive car museum in the Southern Hemisphere. It features a 60,000 square meter exhibition hall, as well as engineering workshops, a gift shop, a restaurant, and a small theater that can accommodate 474 people. Currently, the museum houses a collection of 250 vintage cars and 3 aircraft. Its treasures include an 1895 Mercedes-Benz, Marlene Dietrich’s Rolls-Royce, a 1915 Stutz Indianapolis race car, a 1950 Cadillac, and more. In addition to these classic cars from different eras, the museum also collects automobiles, sports cars, motorcycles, fire engines, and airplanes from various periods.
