Greytown is located in the Wellington Region of New Zealand and is a charming colonial town established in 1854 as the country’s first planned inland settlement. It was formed when settlers arriving in Wellington sought more affordable land on its outskirts.

Although not large, Greytown has preserved an extensive collection of Victorian-era wooden buildings, said to be the largest such ensemble in New Zealand. The town features numerous representative historic structures. Visitors can admire the 1888-built Athenaeum, explore the Museum of Early Settlers to experience living history, shop for unique gifts or local treats at specialty stores including antique shops, craft boutiques, art galleries, and gourmet shops, or enjoy a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere in charming cafés and restaurants.
