Lake Wairarapa

Lake Wairarapa is located in the Wellington Region of New Zealand's North Island, approximately 50 kilometers from the capital city of Wellington. With an average depth of 2.5 meters and a surface area of about 78 square kilometers, it is the third-largest lake on the North Island, after Lake Rotorua.

The lake's catchment area is vast, covering the eastern parts of the Rimutaka and Tararua Ranges, with water flowing in from several rivers. The surrounding area consists of low-lying wetlands and marshes, and protecting this wetland environment and its wildlife has become an important task. Lake Wairarapa holds significant importance for the Māori who once lived here, providing them with a variety of food sources essential for survival. To this day, the lake is home to a large number of rare waterfowl and bird species. The tranquil Lake Wairarapa is breathtakingly beautiful in the evening light. As the sun sets, the lake shimmers golden, while trees and flowers along the shore reflect on the calm water, adding vibrant splashes of color.
