Pebble Museum

The Pebble Museum is located in Greytown, in the Wellington region, and is an important museum showcasing the history of the area. Its name comes from the well-preserved cobblestone courtyard.

The museum is made up of several buildings that have been listed as historic sites, including a colonial cottage built in 1867, the first public hospital in Wairarapa built in 1875, the first Methodist church in Wairarapa built in 1865, a rural school that opened to the public in 1902, stables, and the first wool press in Wairarapa built in 1858. These historic buildings tell the long history of Greytown. In addition to these iconic structures, the museum also displays carriages, gigs, and vehicles used by merchants. The Methodist church built in 1865 has also become a popular venue for many local couples to hold their weddings, with many choosing to celebrate the most important ceremony of their lives in this historic church.
