Lake Burley Griffin is located in the center of Canberra, the capital territory of Australia. It is an artificial lake with a dam. The lake features six islands of varying sizes, adding to its charm. The lake is named after the renowned Australian architect Walter Burley Griffin.

The lake is 11 kilometers long, 1.2 kilometers wide, covers an area of 6.64 square kilometers, and has a capacity of 33 million cubic meters. Besides sightseeing, Lake Burley Griffin is also used for many recreational activities. Boating, sailing, and windsurfing are popular year-round. In summer, the lake hosts numerous triathlon and duathlon events, including the Canberra Ngunnawal Triathlon Festival. Fishing is a popular activity on Lake Burley Griffin, where the most common species is the introduced carp. Various introduced and native species are stocked in the lake annually.

Another highlight of Lake Burley Griffin is the Captain James Cook memorial structures in the lake, which include a fountain and a globe sculpture at the sailing venue that marks Cook’s exploration route. The fountain reaches a height of up to 183 meters, creating a magnificent spectacle.
