Theatre of Dionysus

Introduction There are two semicircular theatres on the southern side of the Acropolis, connected by a colonnade, which fully reflects the ancient Greeks’ passion for the arts. The Odeon of Herodes Atticus on the west side is still used today as a venue for open-air summer concerts and theatrical performances, while the Theatre of Dionysus to the east is open to visitors as a historical site. This theatre was built in the 5th century BC and was originally a place for worshipping the god Dionysus.
