Benaki Museum

Introduction   The Benaki Museum is a comprehensive cultural museum in Greece, primarily housing artifacts from countries and regions around the Mediterranean. It gradually developed based on the collection of over 35 years amassed by Antonis Benakis. Originally, these items were displayed in Benakis’ private residence. In 1931, he donated the collection to the state, and the museum was named after him. Later, the museum received further donations and expansions, resulting in an extensive collection now displayed across more than 20 exhibition halls. The museum features Chinese ceramics, Persian silk, embroidered works from various Greek islands, Greek folk crafts, and even diamond earrings once owned by the Queen of Sweden. The Benaki Museum attracts a large number of both domestic and international visitors.
