Acropolis of Athens

The Acropolis is a jewel of Athens and all of Greece, and a symbol of Athenian democracy. Sitting at an elevation of 156 meters, it can be seen from anywhere in the city. The natural hillside allows access only from the western side. The summit of the Acropolis is home to some of the most outstanding creations of ancient Greek civilization, and the site is also world-famous for its museums.

Among the most well-known are the Parthenon (also known as the Temple of Athena), the Propylaea (the entrance to the Acropolis), and more. There is also the Acropolis Museum, which houses the original sculptures and other artifacts from the Acropolis. A blue-and-white Greek flag flies atop the Acropolis, offering panoramic views of the entire city of Athens.
