The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is situated on the southern side of the entrance to the Acropolis in Athens. Constructed during the Roman era by the affluent Roman Herodes Atticus in honor of his wife, it has been preserved in excellent condition. Initially, the theater was an outdoor venue that could host over 5,000 spectators, and the newly restored seating can now hold more than 6,000 people. It serves as one of the key venues for the Athens Festival—currently, it still hosts various theatrical, musical, and dance performances on a non-regular basis.

The Odeon of Herodes Atticus features a three-tiered architectural structure, with a semi-circular auditorium spanning 38 meters in diameter. From any seat, the voices of actors on stage and the music from the orchestra can be heard clearly. This historic venue is home to the Athens Festival, which takes place annually between June and September. Established in 1955, the Athens Festival is Greece’s largest arts festival and also one of the most influential and sizable cultural events in Europe. During the festival, both local Greek performances and international acts are showcased at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, offering audiences a truly enriching experience.
