Gǔqiánbǎo Town is located 2 kilometers north of Tiānzhèn County. It borders Xīnghé County in Inner Mongolia to the north, Yánggāo County to the west, and Lǜjiāwān Town of the same county to the east. Covering a total area of 129.9 square kilometers, the region consists of equal parts mountainous hills and flat plains. The total cultivated land area is 44,830 mu, with 20,000 mu being irrigated farmland. The town governs 13 administrative villages and 1 neighborhood residents' committee, with a total population of 21,100, including 18,869 agricultural residents.

Gǔqiánbǎo Town has a temperate arid to semi-arid continental monsoon climate, with an average annual rainfall of around 400 mm and a frost-free period of 98–135 days. The town enjoys significant geographical advantages and convenient transportation. Not only is it close to the county seat, but it is also traversed by the Beijing-Baotou Railway and the Dàtóng-Zhangjiakou Highway from east to west. The Tiānzhèn County Railway Station and the major industrial and mining enterprises of the county are located within its jurisdiction, making it a central planned development zone for the new county seat. Gǔqiánbǎo Town is rich in natural resources, with main minerals including iron, lead, zinc, graphite, rare earth elements, and geothermal water. Among these, geothermal water resources are abundant and of high quality. Experts have confirmed that the water contains a variety of trace elements beneficial to human health. The Tiānzhèn County Hot Spring Resort is located here, attracting a continuous stream of visitors for bathing, convalescence, leisure, and vacation.

The natural scenery of Gǔqiánbǎo Town is pleasant, featuring the majestic beauty of North Mountain and the clear waters of the Nányáng River. Well-preserved ancient sections of the Great Wall still exist within the area. Trenches from the war of resistance can still be faintly seen. Coupled with the distinctive local customs and the simple, kind, and hospitable local people, the town is undoubtedly a great destination for tourism and sightseeing.

The economy of Gǔqiánbǎo Town is primarily agricultural, with major crops including corn, potatoes, vegetables, and coarse grains. The livestock industry mainly focuses on pigs, cattle, and sheep. In recent years, the town has vigorously promoted rural economic development centered on agricultural restructuring, achieving favorable economic, ecological, and social outcomes. The town has developed new industries such as marigold cultivation, edible almond production, and large-scale chicken farming. Marigold cultivation covers an area of 3,000 mu, edible almonds are planted over 20,000 mu, and an ecological zone spanning 20,000 mu has been established. The laying hen population has reached 100,000, while characteristic breeding industries such as rex rabbit and roe deer farming are gradually emerging. The gradual development of the tertiary sector is driving the urbanization of the rural areas across the town. In 2004, the total rural economic income of the town was 84.365 million yuan, with an average per capita net income of 2,121 yuan for farmers.
