Tomb of Ren Yonglie

The Tomb of Ren Yonglie is a cultural tourism attraction.

Ren Ju, courtesy name Yonglie, was a Qing Dynasty military governor. His tomb is located ten li east of Datong City in front of Shuipo Temple. Posthumously honored with the title "Yonglie" (Brave and Heroic), the site preserves imperial inscribed stelae and stone statues.

Ren Ju, courtesy name Hanzhong, was a native of Datong during the Qing Dynasty. He had a ruddy complexion and a long beard, and was known for his loyalty, righteousness, and exceptional courage and talent. In the second year of the Yongzheng reign, he passed the imperial military examination and was appointed as the garrison commander of Bailin in Shaanxi. For his meritorious service in the campaign to conquer Barkol, he was promoted to the position of Du Si (military commander) in Ningxia. In the eleventh year of the Qianlong reign, he was elevated to the rank of military governor of Guyuan. Due to his repeated military achievements, he was specially appointed as the deputy commander of Xifeng and later promoted to the acting position of Chongqing's regional commander. He died a heroic death at the age of 46 while bravely fighting the enemy in a battle to suppress a rebellion. Emperor Qianlong deeply mourned his loss and granted him posthumous honors equivalent to those of a military governor, bestowing upon him the posthumous title "Yonglie" (Brave and Heroic). He was enshrined in the Zhaogong Temple (Temple to Loyalists). The imperial court also granted him a burial site ten li east of Datong City, in front of Shuipo Temple, along with an imperial sacrificial text and an inscribed stele (the stele still exists today).
