Yardang Dragon City is located in the Lop Nur region in the northern part of Ruoqiang County. "Yardang" is a Uyghur word originally meaning "steep earthen mound," but now generally refers to a unique landform found in arid areas. Formed by the erosion of torrential flows and subsequent intense wind erosion on clay-rich rock layers, it consists of a series of parallel "ridges" and "grooves" that stretch in the direction of prevailing winds. These formations range from several meters to dozens of meters in height, with some stretching hundreds of meters in length, exhibiting a myriad of bizarre shapes, creating a spectacular sight.
