Luobu People’s Village

The Luobu People’s Village is a national scenic area and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Luobu People’s Village Scenic Area in Yuli County is situated in Duketan Township, about 40 kilometers from Yuli County and 90 kilometers from Korla City, the capital of the Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture. This scenic area features multiple “China’s superlatives”: the largest desert — the Taklamakan Desert; China’s longest inland river — the Tarim River flows through the area; the largest primitive populus euphratica forest reserve, as well as the ancient, mysterious, and time-honored Luobu people. It is a typical desert-type scenic tourism area that combines both natural and cultural landscapes, covering an area of 134 square kilometers, with 72 square kilometers currently designated as part of the scenic zone.

The local residents are also among the last of the Luobu people on Earth. Coming from the distant Lop Nur, they live in isolation in the desert, using poplar wood to make boats, fishing for a living, eating fish as their staple food, and making their homes by small lakes (known as "little seas"), thus perpetuating a primitive tribal way of life.

The entire tourist area is divided into eight functional zones: the Luobu People’s Folk Culture Zone; the Desert Tourism and Adventure Zone; the “Goddess Lake” Tourist Zone; the Sand Sculpture Art Garden; the Desert Botanical Garden; the Wildlife Park; the Silk Road Ethnic Garden; and the Tarim River Adventure Tourism Zone.

Currently, the village has constructed a Tarim River suspension bridge, reception wooden cabins, a Luobu People’s teahouse, leisure walkways, Luobu-style residences, a visitor center, a business center, and the Alderk Memorial Hall. It has also replicated relics such as the Sun Tomb and the Xingdi Rock Art Fate Wheel site. Over 20 camels, desert off-road vehicles, powered paragliders, and other facilities have been acquired. Mobile and Unicom communication companies have built communication towers whose signals cover the Luobu People’s Village Scenic Area, bringing convenience for tourists.

The scenic area features a unique blend of natural and cultural landscapes, holding a monopolistic advantage with its distinctive folk customs, a regional edge of pristine and beautiful natural scenery, and a premium advantage of diverse tourism resources. It integrates sightseeing, exploration, ecological appreciation, and historical value, making it one of Xinjiang’s most distinctive and promising tourist destinations.

Duketan Township: Duketan Township is located in the southwest of Yuli County, about 32 kilometers from the county seat. It borders the Tazhong Farming Area of the Second Agricultural Division to the east, Qiemu County to the south, Karquga Township to the west, and adjoins Korla City to the north. The total area is 9,775 square kilometers, including 16,500 mu of cultivated land and 178,850 mu of grassland. The Tarim River and the Weigan River flow from west to east through the township.
