Ebinur Lake

Ebinur Lake, meaning "Sun-facing Lake" in Mongolian, is located south of Alashankou. It is a typical inland salt lake, situated at an elevation of 189 meters, with a surface area of 550 square kilometers. As the lowest point and water-salt convergence center in the western Junggar Basin, it is also the largest saltwater lake in Xinjiang. The lakeshore is home to the national-level Baisuoxiao Nature Reserve and the autonomous region-level Ebinur Lake Wetland Nature Reserve, serving as a habitat for numerous wild animals such as red deer, Mongolian gazelles, hares, and wild ducks, as well as a treasure trove of wild plants. In June 2000, Ebinur Lake was approved as an autonomous region-level wetland nature reserve. To its east lies the 820,000-mu national-level Ganjiahu Baisuoxiao Nature Reserve.
