Shache Yarkant River Kaqun Water Diversion HubA national A-level scenic area, located in Kaqun Township, Shache County, about 50 kilometers from the county town. This water diversion hub features a "River-Viewing Pavilion." The project delivers significant benefits, boasts excellent quality, and features a grand and magnificent scale, earning high praise from local irrigators as well as experts both at home and abroad. The Kaqun Water Diversion Hub stretches over a kilometer in length, with a tall and imposing archway erected at each end — north and south. The northern archway is inscribed with the words “Nurturing the Oasis to the North,” while the southern one reads “Reaching the Kunlun to the South.” These eight bold Chinese characters are said to have been written by a minor official surnamed Long, nicknamed the “Dragon King,” during the late Qing Dynasty. They have since been moved by later generations to the archways of the water diversion hub. Though few in number, these characters succinctly capture the great importance and majestic presence of this mighty river and its water control structure. Known as the “Dujiangyan of Xinjiang,” the Kaqun Water Diversion Hub is an ideal destination for travelers seeking sightseeing, recreation, and summer retreats, while also continuing to bring lasting benefits to the people living along both banks of the Yarkant River.
