Ancient City of Kaladun

The Ancient City of Kaladun is a cultural tourism attraction.

Introduction The Ancient City of Kaladun is located in the desert downstream of the Keriya River, 240 kilometers north of Yutian County in Hotan, and 440 kilometers from Hotan. It is a national-level cultural heritage protection site.

In Uyghur, "Kaladun" means "black sand dune." The ancient fortress is rectangular, with sides 60 meters long, and the existing earthen walls are 8 meters high. Archaeological finds here include pottery shards, felt fragments, and ancient Han Dynasty coins. These artifacts date back to the Han Dynasty to the Northern and Southern Dynasties period and represent one of the many small fortresses — “dozens of small cities” — that existed within the ancient Kingdom of Khotan.
