Ningxia Great Wall Museum

The Ningxia Great Wall Museum is a World Cultural Heritage site.

The Great Wall in Ningxia is not only numerous in quantity but also widely distributed. Cultural relics and archaeology experts have determined from historical records and construction techniques that the Great Wall was built or utilized here from the Warring States Period all the way to the Ming Dynasty. As a result, Ningxia is known as the “China Great Wall Museum.”

To better showcase the Great Wall culture of Ningxia, the Ningxia Great Wall Museum was built inside the Hongshan Fortress in the Shuidonggou Scenic Area, where a relatively intact section of the eastern Ming Great Wall is preserved. Covering a construction area of 2,200 square meters, the museum mimics the traditional architectural style of fortresses in northwestern Ningxia, featuring a single-story structure and a two-courtyard layout. It displays the rise and fall of the Great Wall, its architecture, garrison life, battles, management, and cultural exchanges between the Great Wall and various ethnic groups through images, models, paintings, and other forms, with a focus on showcasing the features and evolution of the Great Wall throughout different dynasties in Ningxia.
