Yueluo Shiyai Ruins

The site is located in Haidong Village, Jintan Township, Haiyan County, Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Yueluo Shiyai lies at the border between Huangyuan County and Haiyan County and is part of the northern extension of the Riyue Mountain range, at an altitude of over 3,300 meters. The mountain spur connects to Riyue Mountain in the south, borders the Huangshui River in the east, and faces a large mountain valley to the northwest. It is elongated from north to south and narrow from east to west, with a relatively flat summit. The ruins are situated in the central-southern part of the spur, covering an area of approximately 200×50 meters, though the depth of the cultural deposits is unknown. The cultural layers are exposed on the surface, where grayish soil and circular house foundations—each about 140–150 cm in diameter and spaced roughly 10 meters apart—are visible. These foundations were made using clay mixed with fine sand, and some have stone-built hearths in the center. On the southeastern edge of the ruins, there is a stone wall about 8 meters long, slightly curved, with a remaining height of 60 cm and width of 40–50 cm, built from river cobbles. The ground within the site is scattered with bones, river pebbles, and pottery shards. Most of the pottery pieces are small and fragmented, but identifiable forms include sand-tempered gray and red pottery with double handles—such as jars and pots—as well as large-mouthed urns. Based on the pottery, the site is identified as belonging to the Dahua Zhongzhuang type of the Kayue culture. It is designated as a county-level cultural heritage site.

Haidong Village: Haidong Village in Jintan Township, Haiyan County, is located in the southeastern part of the county, 14 kilometers from the county seat and 1 kilometer from the township government. Covering a total area of 56,000 mu, it is primarily an agricultural village. The village administers three communities: Xiabatai, Haidong, and Quanji. It has a total of 241 farming and herding households, comprising 962 people, with 513 laborers. The population includes four ethnic groups: Han, Tibetan, Mongolian, and Tu, with ethnic minorities making up 12.5% of the total population. The village has 52,000 mu of usable grassland, averaging 54 mu per person, along with 2,689 mu of arable land and 877 mu of land returned from farming to forest.
