Goose Peak Temple

Goose Peak Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Dai County.

Goose Peak Temple is located in Nanjiu Village, Eko Town, Dai County. Its founding date is unknown. According to an inscription inside the temple, it was renovated in the 34th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1908). The temple faces south and has a total area of 1,097 square meters. It features a single-courtyard layout, with only the main hall remaining on the central axis — a structure dating back to the Qing Dynasty — while the rest have been rebuilt. The main hall sits on a stone foundation, which is 14.5 meters wide, 6.8 meters deep, and 0.6 meters high. The hall is five bays wide and four rafters deep, with a single-eave flush-gable roof and a five-rafter front porch structure. The interior fittings have been modified. One Qing Dynasty inscription recording the temple’s renovation still remains. In 2002, it was designated as a county-level cultural heritage site by the People’s Government of Dai County. Eko Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Dai County. It was part of the Nieying Commune in 1958, became the Eko Commune in 1961, and was established as a town in 1984. Located in the southeastern part of the county, it is 28 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 83.1 square kilometers, it has a population of 34,600. The Beijing-Yuanping Railway, the Taiyuan Iron and Steel Eko Iron Mine dedicated railway line, and roads leading to Mount Wutai all pass through the town. The area has abundant water resources, with the E River flowing year-round. The provincial key water conservancy project, the South-to-North Water Diversion, has been completed.
