At the summit of Guancen Mountain in Shanxi Province lies an expansive alpine meadow—this is the provincial-level tourist attraction, Maren Grassland. Situated atop the high mountains, it reaches an elevation of up to 2,712 meters. Unlike the grasslands of Inner Mongolia, the pasture here grows three to five times taller, presenting a vividly fresh and emerald green hue. This magical grassland blooms with a variety of colorful flowers, and when you step onto it, the soft and comfortable feeling is just like walking on a giant carpet.

　Located at an altitude of over 2,700 meters, this is a subalpine meadow characterized by its vast and open landscape. A visit to the grassland also allows you to see the Flying Stone, the Stone Monkey Gazing at the Moon, the Vast- (name unclear), the Northern Qi Great Wall, the Garden of Peculiar Pines, the Garden of Unique Rocks, and Camel Peak. From here, you can also gaze upon Mount Luya, Tiger Head Mountain, and Lotus Leaf Plain. The flower-strewn subalpine meadow will make you linger even longer.

Recommended Itinerary: Travel tips: There are eight main attractions in Mount Luya, divided into two routes. The Mount Luya route includes Mount Luya (Maren Grassland) with an entrance fee of 20 RMB, Lover’s Valley with an entrance fee of 10 RMB, and Fenhe Source with an entrance fee of 20 RMB.

The total is 50 RMB. The Eternal Ice Cave route includes the Eternal Ice Cave (50 RMB), Cliffside Plank Road (15 RMB), and Suspended Coffins & Hanging Temple (20 RMB), totaling 85 RMB. Tianchi Lake (10 RMB) is located on the way from Ningwu to Dongzhai Town. Of course, you may also choose to visit the “Mount Luya” route attractions on the first day, the “Eternal Ice Cave” route on the second day, and finish with “Tianchi Lake.” The above schedule is rather tight, so please plan your time wisely. Independent travelers might consider extending their trip by half a day or a full day.

☆☆☆ Ningwu Maren Grassland Transportation Guide ☆☆☆

Dongzhai Town is a three-hour drive from Taiyuan. First, take the Yuan-Tai Expressway to Yuanping City, then transfer to the Dayun Second-Class Highway from Yuanping to reach Ningwu County, and finally travel from Ningwu County to Dongzhai Town. Independent travelers can take a bus from Taiyuan Railway Station or the Square Long-Distance Bus Station to Ningwu County, then transfer to reach Dongzhai Town. From there, you can find local buses heading to the two main tourist routes. If traveling by train, you can reach Ningwu County from either Taiyuan or Datong via the Beitaipingpu Railway Line.
