Residential Houses of Hanging Village

The residential houses of Hanging Village are located in Hanging Village, Censhan Township, Ningwu County. The village faces south and covers an area of approximately 3,000 square meters. The exact date of its establishment is unknown. Nestled against a cliff and overlooking a deep abyss, the village is built on a cliff face at an altitude of 2,000 meters. The houses are constructed along the mountain slope, with many supported by wooden stilts extending from the cliff edge. Wooden planks are laid out in front of each house, connecting to form an aerial pathway about 1 kilometer long through the village. Viewed from below, the entire settlement appears to be hanging in mid-air. Below the village lies a stone mill close to the cliff, and outside the village there is also an ancient stone stairway path, which was once the only route for villagers to access the village from below via a wooden bridge.
