Lotus Cave Grottoes The Lotus Cave Grottoes are located on Lingbao Mountain, 70 kilometers south of Pingbian County, at an altitude of 2,100 meters. The area features undulating peaks covered in lush greenery and dense forests. The grottoes have two entrances, front and rear. The front cave is now abandoned, while the rear cave is 3 meters high, 4 meters wide, and 15 meters deep, with eight carved statues inside. On the cave floor's rock walls, a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, standing 2.3 meters tall, is carved along the wall. Opposite the cave entrance, on the rock wall, are carvings of the Jade Emperor and the Queen Mother of the West, with a figure of Skanda (Weituo) in front of them. The craftsmanship is highly skilled and the carving fine. The Buddhist statues and Vajra figures inside the cave date back to the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. The Taoist statues were carved between the 20th and 32nd years of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty (1894–1906). They were designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Yunnan Province in 1987.
