Dazhuang Mosque in Kaiyuan is located to the south of Dazhuang Village, Dazhuang Hui Ethnic Township, Kaiyuan City. The mosque was first built during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, rebuilt during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, and relocated and reconstructed in the 17th year of the Jiaqing era (1812). The entire complex consists of the main prayer hall, side halls, minaret, front hall, scripture library, imam’s office, and the main gate, covering a land area of 9,450 square meters with a building area of 4,179 square meters. The architectural design features courtyards within courtyards. The main prayer hall, minaret, and front hall are aligned along a central axis running from west to east, while the scripture library and the main gate follow a separate axis oriented from north to south.

The main prayer hall of Dazhuang Mosque was built in the 17th year of the Jiaqing era (1812), featuring a single-eave hip-and-gable roof and a seven-rafter beam structure. It is 20.7 meters wide and 16 meters deep. The mosque’s minaret was built in the 15th year of the Daoguang era (1835) during the Qing Dynasty, with a triple-eave pyramidal six-sided spire and an overall height of 16.21 meters. Local worshippers affectionately call it the “Awakening Tower,” praising it with the couplet: “A towering structure rises from the earth, piercing through the celestial realms of paradise; its divine teachings echo across the sky, awakening all souls in the town.” The front hall was constructed in the 8th year of the Daoguang era (1828), is 11.18 meters tall, has three bays in width, and features a single-eave hip-and-gable roof with a five-rafter post-and-lintel wooden structure.

In 1983, it was listed as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit, and in 1999, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit of Yunnan Province.
