Seven-Lotus Lakes

On both sides of the Nujiang River, at altitudes above 3,500 meters, there are numerous glacial lakes. In the transition between spring and summer, as ice melts and snow recedes, flowers bloom wherever the snow retreats—from the mountainsides to the lakeshores, creating a sea of blossoms. The crystal-clear, azure lakes reflect the endless primeval forests and expansive blue skies, while the white snow highlights the even more vibrant colors of the alpine rhododendrons.

No one has accurately counted just how many of these high-altitude lakes there are, but locals will tell you there are too many to ever explore them all. Just on the Biluo Snow Mountain in Fugong County, at elevations above 3,800 meters, there are over ten such lakes, among which the largest and most beautiful is the Seven-Lotus Lakes (also known as the Seven Fairies Lakes). Seven small lakes, like seven blooming snow lotuses, are scattered across the majestic mountains. The lake water comes from melting snow and ice, making it crystal clear, with surfaces as smooth as mirrors nestled in the mountains. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, forests, meadows, and fields of flowers... the scenery is so breathtakingly beautiful that locals have also named it the "Enchanting Lakes."
