Cai Fachun’s Residence was the home of Cai Fachun, a general under the Dali regime led by Du Wenxiu, and his family during their stay in Yun County. The building is located at No. 10 Gai Xin Lane, Hui Ying Street, and was constructed in the mid-Qing Dynasty. It features a traditional “three rooms with a screen wall” layout, with the main structure and original appearance largely intact. ...it was included by the municipal government in the first batch of municipal-level intangible cultural heritage protection lists as a “folk architecture.” It currently serves as the residence of five Hui Muslim families: Ma Huaili, Ma Huairén, Ma Huaiyi, Ma Yicheng, and Ma Caiméi. This building is the largest and best-preserved example of the “three rooms with a screen wall” architectural style in Yun County, holding significant historical and artistic value.

Cai Fachun ( ? – 1861 ), a Hui Muslim, styled Xianghua, was a native of Yunzhou (now Yun County). He served as the Grand Commander-in-Chief, overseeing all military affairs, and was one of the most outstanding senior generals in the early Dali regime.

He was of imposing stature, possessed extraordinary strength, and was well-versed in military strategy and skilled in martial arts. It was said that he could perform 72 consecutive moves with the Guan Yu sword without changing expression, earning him the nickname “Seventy-Two.” From 1857 to 1861, he led rebel forces in campaigns across the region, successively capturing more than twenty counties and districts including Menghua, Nanjian, Yunzhou, Mianning, Yongchang, and Tengyue, and thwarting the Qing army’s attempts to besiege the Dali regime.
