Maolan Chang’an Bridge

Maolan Chang’an Bridge is situated on the Maolan River, west of the Maolan Town government and about 20 kilometers north of Yun County’s county seat. Originally constructed during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, it underwent renovation in the 15th year of the Guangxu reign (1889). The structure is a stone arch bridge, measuring 46 meters in length, 3.3 meters in width, with a span of 9 meters and standing approximately 10 meters above the riverbed. Stone railings line both sides, and atop the arch, just beyond the railings, sits a pair of stone-carved dragon heads, each facing toward the upstream and downstream directions of the river. During the Qing Dynasty and even into the early years of the Republic of China, this bridge served as a vital transportation route connecting Yun County with places such as Dali and Kunming. In 1983, it was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit.
