Jingdong Earth Forest
The earth forest is located in the eastern part of Wenjing Town, covering a scenic area of about one square kilometer and situated 25 kilometers from the county seat. It is one of the four major earth forests in Yunnan (Yuanmou Earth Forest, Yongde Earth Forest, Nanjian Earth Forest).
The Jingdong Earth Forest was formed through geological changes, though the exact time of its formation remains unknown. The entire earth forest is distributed between two small hills at the junction of Laolian and Wenwo, featuring an intricate arrangement and unique formations. From a distance, it resembles a peculiar medieval cathedral, with slender spires reaching gracefully toward the sky. Up close, it looks like a layered pagoda forest, densely stacked and neatly arranged. Some towering pillars resemble pairs of lovers gazing affectionately at each other, exuding deep love and unwavering devotion; others look like monks begging for alms, holding their robes and bowls as they wander the land; some earth pillars even resemble crouching lions and tigers, guarding the territory. Entering the core of the earth forest feels like stepping into a maze, with winding paths that make it hard to find the way out. Faced with this spectacle, the incredible craftsmanship of nature stirs the imagination.
Viewed from south to north, the earth forest features both cone-shaped and column-shaped formations of varying heights—some stand five meters tall, others ten meters, and some even over twenty meters. Their shapes are diverse and striking, with some resembling animals, vividly and lifelike, such as a pair of lovers nestled closely together, whispering softly... "That one looks like a camel’s hump, that one like a mushroom..." Yang Cuirong enthusiastically explains. From different angles, the earth forest offers different impressions, truly embodying the poetic line, "Viewed horizontally, a range; viewed vertically, a peak; far or near, high or low, each has its unique view."
Confucius (551–479 BC), whose given name was Qiu and courtesy name Zhongni, was a native of Zouyi in Changping, the State of Lu (present-day southeastern Qufu, Shandong). He was a thinker, educator, and statesman in the late Spring and Autumn period, the founder of Confucianism, and one of the most influential figures in Chinese history and culture. He also had a significant impact worldwide, especially in Southeast Asian countries, and is recognized as one of the world's cultural luminaries.
Confucius’s ancestors were Wei Ziqi, the younger half-brother of King Zhou of the Shang Dynasty during the late Yin period. Ziqi upheld the Shang ancestral rites and was enfeoffed in Song. His sixth-generation ancestor, Kong Fu Jia, was the first to adopt the surname Kong. His fifth-generation ancestor, Mu Jin Fu, fled to Lu to escape turmoil and later settled in Zou, the State of Lu... More detailed information about Confucius ++
