Jiugou Scenic Area

Jiugou Scenic Area has a long history and rich cultural heritage. Just one kilometer away, the Liangcun Ancient Human Site is a provincial-level cultural relic protection area. Renowned Tang Dynasty poets Wang Wei and Wen Tingyun, as well as Ming Dynasty novelist Luo Guanzhong, were all born in villages near the scenic area. This location was also a strategic stronghold at Zihongkou. Historical records indicate that the military camp of the Song Dynasty general Yang Yanzhao was located in Luoyang Village, one kilometer south of Jiugou. Notable figures from the late Ming Dynasty, such as Fu Shan and Gu Yanwu, once composed poems praising the area’s beautiful scenery. The scenic area lies at the heart of a network of tourist attractions, including the Ancient City of Pingyao, the Ancient City of Qixian, Qiao’s Family Compound, Qu’s Family Compound, and Cao’s Family Compound in Taigu.

The scenic area is situated at the center of a pollution-free, ten-thousand-mu fruit plantation zone, enjoying moderate temperatures and humidity as well as abundant water resources. It features the northern landscape charm of mountainous regions, the southern water-town ambiance of lake areas, and picturesque rural surroundings. With its shimmering lakes, rolling hills, birdsong, and floral fragrance, it serves as a unique complementary leisure and resort destination for sightseeing in central Shanxi Province and the suburbs of Taiyuan.
