Mayanghe Nature Reserve

The Mayanghe Nature Reserve is a national-level nature reserve.

Introduction: The Mayanghe National Nature Reserve in Guizhou is a wildlife-type nature reserve. The total area of the reserve is 31,113 hectares, including a core zone of 10,543 hectares, a buffer zone of 10,522 hectares, and an experimental zone of 5,548 hectares.

The reserve was established in 1987, upgraded to a provincial-level nature reserve in 1994 with approval from the People's Government of Guizhou Province, and further promoted to a national-level nature reserve in 2003 with approval from the State Council. Its primary conservation targets are the endangered Phayre’s leaf monkey (Trachypithecus phayrei), a Class I nationally protected wild animal, and its habitat. There are 76 groups totaling 736 Phayre’s leaf monkeys within the reserve. Their population size and density rank first in China. Transportation: Located at the border between Yanhe Tujia Autonomous County and Wuchuan Gelao and Miao Autonomous County in northeastern Guizhou, the reserve is just 24 kilometers from the county town. It can be accessed by boat, either directly or via the Wu River to disembark at Siqu or Gongdu. The fastest way to reach Mayanghe from Yanhe County is by taking a boat downstream along the Wu River.
