Guiwu —— Where sunrise and sunset cast their glow over the streams. About 60 kilometers from the county town, Guiwu is nestled close to Tianzhu Pingdi. Here, the landscape is picturesque and the people gifted. At dawn, the morning sun rises, and as evening falls, the sunset bathes the lake in radiant hues. The mountains stand lush and green, the waters crystal clear.

A rural road winds around endless cloud-covered peaks, spiraling upward, surrounded by gracefully winding mountain ridges that resemble a slumbering giant dragon, lying still for millions of years. Gazing across the mountain summits, you see clouds and mist swirling, gradually enveloping the natural lakes nestled at the foothills. The emerald-green mountains layer upon layer, like the undulating waves of the sea—ethereal and tranquil, offering a truly delightful sight. In the early morning, watch the sunrise from atop the Huaxi Lake. Around 9 a.m., a fiery red orb slowly ascends, its light soft and gentle. The reflections shimmer on the lake’s surface, creating an exceptionally vivid and enchanting scene. In the afternoon, the entire mountain is serene. From another direction along the shore of Huaxi Lake, watch the sunset. As the sun dips below the horizon, the remaining light resembles a crimson glow. The afterglow of the setting sun drapes like a red veil over the hazy mountains. That round, large sun is as vivid as a bright red coral ball, casting the whole range of hills and the lake in a faint crimson hue. Ahead, what looks like delicate silk ribbons gently and softly descend, dyeing the western sky red—as if it were a beating heart, putting up a tenacious fight against the encroaching darkness. The varying heights of trees, the meandering streams, the rustic rural bridges, and the farmhouses along the streambanks together form a vivid, highland painting of rural life. The chirping of various mountain birds transports you into a fairytale world.

Ancient travelers once wrote of this place: “Amid colored clouds where celestial homes lie, ancient pines and cypresses greet the evening sky. A blood-red sunset stains the heavens wide, as we joyfully watch dusk ascending high.” This scenic stretch extends for 3 kilometers, offering a unique experience where you can take in the full splendor of both sunrise and sunset.
