Shuitaogou in Mianshan is the soul of the mountain. A winding stream stretching ten li flows into the grand Mianshan Gorge. With abundant water resources and dense vegetation, Shuitaogou offers a vibrant scene in spring as nature awakens—with fresh buds, sprouting leaves, and expanding branches; in summer, thick forests block the sun, creating a cool autumn-like atmosphere with lush grass and blooming flowers; in autumn, the hills are laden with fruits, pine waves rustle, and red leaves cascade; in winter, the landscape is draped in silvery white, with ice formations sparkling like crystals and snow-covered mountains undulating like dancing silver serpents.

The highest temperature in Shuitaogou throughout the year does not exceed 29°C, and the air is exceptionally fresh, with over 15,000 negative oxygen ions per square meter, earning it the title of a natural oxygen bar. Not only does Shuitaogou boast a well-developed water system, making it a unique scenic attraction among northern mountain landscapes, but it also combines the delicate beauty of southern waters with the majestic grandeur of northern landscapes.

The most remarkable feature of Shuitaogou’s water system is the “Ten-Li Gallery of Overlapping Waterfalls.” A continuous stream stretching ten li features nearly a hundred large and small waterfalls cascading down layer upon layer, as if shimmering silver silk ribbons were constantly rippling, forming a series of cascading waterfall bands. The highest waterfall in Shuitaogou is the Wulong Waterfall, with a drop of over 80 meters, while the most voluminous is the Shuiliandong (Water Curtain Cave). Truly, there is a scenic highlight at every step, earning it the reputation of the “Little Jiuzhaigou of the North.”

In addition to its stunning natural landscape, Shuitaogou is adorned with cliff inscriptions by scholars and celebrities, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a poetic and picturesque ambiance.

Stretching 15 kilometers in length, Shuitaogou features ancient trees, peculiar rocks, wildflowers, and perennial streams. It also includes numerous historical anecdotes, dozens of waterfalls and water curtain caves of varying sizes, as well as scattered teahouses, taverns, wooden cabins, vine bridges, and stone benches and tables, creating a natural scenery that rivals the beauty of the Jiangnan region. The “Shitong Shui” recorded in Wei Li Daoyuan’s Commentary on the Water Classic meanders through the area—sometimes calm, sometimes rapid—and forms small cascades with drops of nearly three meters in several sections, harmoniously complementing the surrounding green mountains, peculiar rocks, exotic trees, and wildflowers.
