Yidou Spring is a major scenic area in Mianshan, named after a natural stone spring here that can only hold one dou (an ancient Chinese unit of volume) of water. This place was originally the Taoist site of Yuqing Yuanshi Tianzun, also known as Dongzhen Palace. Legend has it that long ago, Mianshan suffered from a shortage of water. Yuanshi Tianzun traveled here, dipped his horsetail whisk in the waters of the East Sea, and sprinkled a few drops onto Mianshan. As a result, many springs appeared on the mountain. The last drop fell here, forming Yidou Spring. To commemorate this, a hall was built to enshrine Yuanshi Tianzun.

Yidou Spring

Yidou Spring is a major scenic area in Mianshan because of a natural stone spring that can only hold one dou of water, hence its name. This place was originally the Taoist site of Yuqing Yuanshi Tianzun, also known as Dongzhen Palace. Legend has it that long ago, Mianshan had little water. Yuanshi Tianzun came here during his travels, dipped his horsetail whisk in the waters of the East Sea, and sprinkled a few drops onto the mountain. Soon, many springs emerged across Mianshan. The final drop landed here, creating Yidou Spring. To honor this, a temple was constructed to worship Yuanshi Tianzun.
