Beehive Spring

Beehive Spring, also known as Stone Milk Spring or Mother’s Nipple, is a rare and spectacular hanging spring. Zhang Shangying, a prime minister of the Northern Song Dynasty, once described the area's mountainous terrain with the verse: “Water cave at Beehive Spring, round as a granary atop the mountaintop; wind blowing through leather bellows in the valley, clouds shrouding the winnowing basket sky.” Its moss-covered stone stalactites hang like broken strings of pearls, dripping into the pool with a melodious plinking sound, resembling the music of nature played on strings. Liang Xiheng, a renowned scholar from the Qing Dynasty's Kangxi era in Jiexiu, described it as “the clear music of landscape played on a wall-hung zither.” Fu Shan, a prominent scholar and calligrapher from the late Ming and early Qing periods, compared the spring water to the most orthodox teachings of Buddhism and the finest grade of cheese—so precious that even the divine dragon Nāga was allowed only a single sip, with no greed permitted. The scenic area also features attractions such as Wangfeng Gate, Five Dragons Worshiping the Mother Hall, Four Seas Dragon Kings Hall, Three Sovereigns Pavilion, Five Sacred Mountains Hall, Mazu Hall, Madonna Hall, Shangshan Ruoshui Archway, and Eight Immortals Cave. The Mazu Hall is rare in northern China and was built by Fan Yubin, a Qing Dynasty imperial merchant from Jiexiu, to pray for safe maritime trade.
