Huanglian Baiqing Nature Reserve Upgraded Huanglian Baiqing Nature Reserve is located in the northeastern part of Tongzi County, covering 25 administrative villages across 154 villager groups in five townships — Shixi, Yangdeng, Shuiba Tang, Mugua, and Huanglian. It was formed by merging the Baiqing Karst Primeval Forest Nature Reserve and the Huanglian Nature Reserve. The reserve preserves well-developed mixed evergreen–deciduous broadleaf forests and Kingdonia uniflora bamboo, which are distributed intensively and in contiguous patches, making it an experimental and research base for the mid-subtropical mountainous mixed evergreen–deciduous broadleaf forest ecosystem. The ecological environment of the reserve is unique, with complex flora and fauna compositions, abundant species resources, and a relatively large number of rare and endangered plant species, all of which hold significant and far-reaching importance for biodiversity conservation. Among the biological resources, there are 1,175 species, including 12 nationally protected endangered and rare plants, such as Davidia involucrata, Cathaya argyrophylla, Ginkgo biloba, and Taxus mairei, which are under first-class national protection. In 2005, with approval from the municipal government, Huanglian Baiqing Nature Reserve was upgraded to a municipal-level nature reserve.
