Zunyi-Shuiyinhe

Shuiyinhe is situated deep in the mountains of Guizhou, within - Village, Muguazhen. It earned its name from the crystal-clear river that sparkles with silver light under the sun. The beauty of Shuiyinhe can best be described as pure and pristine, like unpolished jade. With its twisted branches, perilous pools, cascading waterfalls, and caves, the pristine landscape leaves all who visit in awe. The canyon is long and serene, the mountains majestic yet rugged, the water clear and gentle, and the vegetation lush and delicate. You can hike up the mountain to watch the sunrise, explore caves to uncover their mysteries, wander through the valley to enjoy its tranquility, or go rafting for an adrenaline rush. The locals are simple and hospitable.

Shuiyinhe features a winding grand canyon. Our local mountain guide told us that it would take a full three days to explore the entire Shuiyinhe. The further in you go, the more rugged the waterways become—it’s almost like a primeval forest. At the entrance of the canyon, the water flows slowly and the channel is wide. The murmuring river winds down from the mountains, ice-cold and crystal-clear. Looking up at the sky, it seems as if the canyon has sliced the sky into a slender jade ribbon, with the occasional eagle soaring between the cliffs—a sight that stirs the heart. The valley boasts well-developed karst landforms, including the majestic Panlong Waterfall, the uniquely shaped Piaoxue Peak, and enchanting spots like the Water Curtain Cave, Yaoyu Pool, Rainbow Cave, Biandan Gorge, One-Line Sky, and Pearl Rock. You’ve never seen water so clear, tranquil, and enchanting—it’s impossible not to want to get close to it. This is Shuiyinhe, like a graceful maiden nestled in the canyon of the mountains. The Shuiyinhe Scenic Area is located in Muguazhen, Tongzi County, Zunyi City, Guizhou Province, about 18 kilometers from the Songkan exit of the Qian-Yu Expressway.

Shuiyinhe sits at an altitude of around 500 meters and enjoys a mid-subtropical humid monsoon climate. The ten-mile canyon remains warm in winter and cool in summer, offering a pleasant climate year-round. Chongqing is about a 3.5-hour drive from Shuiyinhe via the Yu-Qian Expressway. Exit at Songkan, then head toward Muguazhen. Alternatively, you can take a train from Chongqing to Songkan and transfer to a local minibus to reach Shuiyinhe.

Square Bamboo Shoots: Square bamboo shoots are a purely natural health food, hailed as the king of bamboo shoots—unique in the world and found only in China.

Cold Mixed Houttuynia: Also known as fish mint, houttuynia has a distinctive aroma and high nutritional value. It contains protein, fat, rich carbohydrates, as well as compounds such as methyl-nonyl ketone, caprylic acid, and laurel oil. It can be used medicinally for its heat-clearing, detoxifying, diuretic, anti-swelling, appetite-stimulating, and qi-regulating properties. Cold Mixed Houttuynia originates from Sichuan, Guizhou, Chongqing, and surrounding areas, and is a beloved local dish in Guizhou with strong regional flavors. For many years, it has been enjoyed by both young and old.

1. The best time for rafting is from April to October each year.

2. For summer trips, bring sunscreen, skincare products, hats, and sunglasses—ideally, have it all.

3. When setting off, it’s best to carry a set of clean clothes for changing after disembarking, as well as a pair of plastic slippers for wearing on the boat.

4. It’s best to start rafting early. The journey from - Town to the rafting site takes about three hours (with plenty of water play along the way). Over 75% of the route involves water crossings, so wearing liberation shoes can help protect your feet from stone abrasions. Long sleeves also effectively shield your skin from the sun. Swim trunks are a good choice, as the water makes regular pants functionally equivalent to swimwear.

5. Don’t forget to bring lunch. If you’re also bringing a camera or other valuables, a high-quality waterproof bag is essential. There are two spots where you might get soaked overhead (I’m 170+ cm tall), and while you can walk along the side paths, it’s still wise to be cautious. If carrying a backpack, locals can help carry it down to the rafting site for about 5 RMB per bag. Larger bags may cost around…

6 RMB.<=15就够了。别听他们说其他的。不过如果你确实有钱,那么当我没说。

6. The first thing to do when boarding the raft is to carefully read the rafting instructions, follow the staff’s arrangements, put on a life jacket, and secure the safety rope.

7. Wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt while rafting—for two reasons: sun protection and scratch protection. You might not notice the discomfort during the ride, but you’ll definitely feel it afterward. My own white thighs turned into two bright red carrots from sunburn—quite frustrating. As for preventing scratches, it’s self-explanatory when navigating over rocks.

8. Do not carry cash or valuables on the raft. In case of capsizing or other accidents, the rafting company and insurance will not compensate for lost cash or items. If you simply must bring a camera for the experience, opt for a low-cost point-and-shoot, wrap it in a plastic bag, open it on calm stretches, and reseal it before rapids. Be prepared for the possibility of it falling into the water.

9. Remember to keep your buttocks tucked while rafting to avoid excessive contact with rocks and potential injury. You’ll understand this better after going through a few rapids.

10. When the raft passes through rapids, follow the staff’s instructions, avoid unnecessary movements, grip the safety rope tightly, tuck your legs in, and lean your body toward the center of the raft.

11. If the raft capsizes, stay calm—your life jacket will keep you afloat.

12. Do not randomly jump into the water to swim. If you do swim, do so only in calm waters and near the raft, and never venture far from it.

13. Even while swimming, be mindful of the sun—you won’t feel it in the water, but you’ll definitely notice it afterward.

14. The campsite is on the riverbank, where mosquitoes are abundant. You can arrange to stay on the rooftop of a farmhouse instead—it’s quite nice, cooler, and less buggy. Two words: peace of mind. Also, if you’re rafting, keep valuables with you to avoid unnecessary losses.
